What is Reiki?
Reiki is most commonly used to help reduce stress and encourage one's body, mind, spirit and energy to achieve
overall balance. Instrumental to wellness, a person's energy level can effect his or her health and general state-of-
mind. When energy levels drop and stress is higher, the body can become susceptible to illness and other physical
and psychological ailments. Reiki is used for many things: relaxation, healing, sleeping, etc. Reiki is often used in
conjunction with other healing modalities. We are happy to provide Reiki, and we always recommend that you
consult a doctor for all health concerns.
Brief History of Reiki:
Reiki is an ancient Japanese technique that encourages healing. Reiki literally translates to mean "universal life
energy"; Rei meaning "universal" and Ki meaning "life energy". For over the past 10 years, Winding Roads’ Reiki
Practitioners have been practicing Usui Reiki, which was founded by Dr. Mikao Usui (aka. Usui Sensei) back in the
early 1900s. Dr. Usui was a successful businessman when life’s "winding road" turned him down the path to become
a Reiki Master and Teacher. The practitioners at Winding Roads are honored to share Usui Reiki with our clients.

What happens in a Reiki session?
The client remains fully clothed during the session. We ask that clients remove their shoes and jewelry during
treatment. Typically, client's will lay on a Reiki table, however; if that is not comfortable for the client, then the
client will remain in a seated position. The session is performed with the practitioner lightly placing their hands on
the client, however; if that is not comfortable for the client, then the session can be performed with no physical
contact. Sessions are about 1 hour long. The first session will include a brief discussion which lasts about 20 minutes
before the treatment begins.
Reiki Client/Practitioner Rights:
All of our client’s information is private. We do not release client information unless there is written permission from
the client. Reiki is not a substitute for medical or psychological care, and our practitioners do not diagnose or
attempt to replace such care. If there is a medical condition or mental health disorder, then our practitioners ask
that clients please consult a licensed medical physician or psychiatrist for care. We will be happy to provide Reiki in
addition to the medical/mental health care; however the licensed medical physician or psychiatrist should be the
main adviser in the client’s care. Reiki does not interfere with or replace a licensed medical provider or psychiatrist.
